If you go more than 63 days without creditable drug coverage you may have to pay a Part D late enrollment penalty. This is an amount that is permanently added to your Medicare Part D premium each month.
The penalty is 1% of the national base beneficiary premium for each month you were without creditable coverage. For 2026, the national base beneficiary premium is $38.99.
