The best way to apply for Medicare if you are not enrolled automatically is to simply go here and sign up online.
You no longer have to drive to the social security office and wait to meet with an representative, unless of course you want to. It is best to do this three months before you’re 65th birthday to ensure you have coverage starting when you need it. You will be able to start and save the application so you can come back to it in the future if you need to.
Please note: this only applies to those who are NOT collecting social security when they turn 65 or go onto Medicare. If you are collecting SS you will be enrolled automatically onto Part A and Part B and should receive your card in the mail 3 months before you 65th birthday.
