Despite its many benefits, Medicare does not cover everything. Over 22 million people rely on Aetna’s Medicare Supplements to fill those gaps, making it the third-largest health insurer in the country.
The Aetna Medicare Plan N for Medicare provides a low-cost alternative to more comprehensive policies like G or F as part of Aetna’s Medicare Supplement plan. 2010 marked the debut of Plan N, a relatively new plan. The number of Plan N enrollees has been growing steadily ever since.
Among Medicare Supplement Plans, Aetna Medigap Plan N offers the best value and a fair amount of coverage. In addition to its strong financial rating, Aetna Medicare Plan N also offers additional features and benefits.
Aetna Medigap Plan N: Costs and Prices
Aetna Medigap Plan N is similar to Plans D and G. However, it does not cover excess charges for Part B. A provider that does not accept Medicare Assignment can charge you 15% more than the Medicare-approved negotiated price.
If you are covered by Plan N, you will still be responsible for certain copayments, which are up to $20 for every office visit, and up to $50 for any emergency room visit that does not result in hospitalization.
All other coinsurance amounts under Part B are covered by the plan. Medigap plans vary in price and availability, just like other insurance plans. Aetna Medigap Plan N might cost $135 per month, on average, for a 68-year-old Michigan resident.
What Does Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan N Cover?
Plan N differs from Plan F and Plan G in that you will have to pay a copayment of up to $20 for some doctor visits and up to $50 for emergency room treatment that does not require you to be hospitalized. Since the monthly premiums are lower, the co-pays add up to savings for healthy seniors.
Here’s what Aetna Plan N Covers:
- Up to an additional 365 days after Original Medicare benefits are exhausted, Medicare Part A hospital coinsurance will apply
- Medicare Part A hospice care coinsurance or co-payment
- The coinsurance or copayments for Medicare Part B (except for a copayment of up to $20 for some office visits and a copayment of up to $50 for ER visits that do not result in inpatient care)
- First three pints of blood used in a medical procedure
This plan also offers the following additional benefits:
- Skilled Nursing Facility coinsurance
- Medicare Part A deductible
- Foreign travel (up to plan limits)
How Much Does Aetna Plan N Cost?
Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan N is priced between $80 and $175 per month. You will pay a different premium depending on your age, whether you smoke, and where you live when signing up for Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan N. For instance, a 65-year-old woman who does not smoke living in zip code 77070 would pay $102 per month.
Can I enroll in a Plan at any time?
An Aetna Medicare Supplement plan requires enrollment in Medicare Part A and B. When you reach 65 years of age and enroll in Original Medicare, you begin your Guaranteed Enrollment Period. Due to your pre-existing health issues, you will not be declined or charged higher rates at this time.
